Mission & History

Mission

Our Mission is to assist healthcare providers and patients with the use of technology and connectivity to improve the health of our communities.

History

The Northeast Kentucky Regional Health Information Organization (NeKY RHIO) was created in 2007 through grant funding from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and HealthBridge Tri-State Regional Extension Center, in an effort to reinforce the quality of healthcare provided by rural physicians throughout Kentucky. The organization changed its name in 2017 to Kentucky RHIO, more adequately reflecting its service across the Commonwealth.

Located in Morehead, Kentucky and West Liberty, Kentucky, Kentucky RHIO is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation.

In 2010, Kentucky RHIO was awarded another HRSA grant that focused on enhancing the use of EHR and HIE technologies in rural healthcare settings. Kentucky RHIO partnered with another HRSA grant recipient, the Kentucky Rural Health Information Technology Network (KRHIT), to provide IT services designed specifically for healthcare providers that utilize EHR technology.

Throughout its history, Kentucky RHIO has been dedicated to working with rural healthcare providers in their on-going efforts to stay at the forefront of healthcare information technology. Staff members can assist providers with the successful completion of each stage of Meaningful Use, help practices stay on track with IT Simplified services and help providers to maximize incentive payments while maintaining with HIPAA compliance.

Kentucky RHIO’s goal is to improve the coordination of care in rural health settings. Staff members assist healthcare providers in all aspects of IT, Project Management and many different service lines improving access to critical medical information at the point of care, by streamlining reporting measures and connecting providers throughout Kentucky.
