Proper Documentation To Ensure You’re Getting Paid For Smoking Cessation

Many healthcare providers are performing daily counseling for their patients that are using tobacco. By providing the proper documentation and ensuring coverage criteria prior to the submission might just improve your chances for reimbursement. In 2010 the CDC conducted a study that showed seven out of 10 adult smokers wished to quit tobacco use. Unfortunately, only an estimated 4% to 7% of people were able to quite smoking without medicine or other help.

There are four items that could help your practice get reimbursed for efforts for reimbursement. The items are medical necessity, documentation, proper billing and knowing your patient coverage.
